Motor Driven Roller (MDR) Conveyor with MultiControl
Main function
The Motor Driven Roller (MDR) conveyor with MultiControl, equipped with integrated RollerDrive motors on each roller or roller group, provides motorized, modulated, and controlled transport of unit loads (cases, cartons, totes, containers, etc.) across conveyor sections with dynamic flow management.
This system is based on low-voltage motorized rollers (48 V or 24 V) centrally controlled by a MultiControl unit that coordinates speeds, directions, and load-holding zones across the entire conveyor line. It enables the combination of transport and controlled accumulation without relying on external belt conveyors or traditional central drive motors.
MDR (Motor Driven Roller) conveyors offer a user-friendly, energy-efficient, quiet, and modular technology well suited to modern automated environments.
Typical applications
• Zero Pressure Accumulation (ZPA) and positioning of cartons, totes, containers, and unit loads
• Automated conveyor lines (production, packaging, distribution) with independent zones and precise control
• Environments requiring mechanical robustness and high throughput (heavier unit loads, frequent cycles)
• Cold environments (e.g., refrigerated warehouses) and wet or washdown areas depending on the RollerDrive variant selected. IP66 versions are available and specifically designed for use in wet environments or areas where water jets are used for cleaning.
• MDR MultiControl conveyors are particularly suited for lines where smooth product movement with intelligent accumulation is required, without excessive mechanical pressure between loads, reducing product damage and line blockages.
Key benefits
• Intelligent acceleration and synchronization: Thanks to the Interroll MultiControl system, MDR sections operate in coordination, automatically adjusting speeds and accumulation zones based on line requirements (MultiControl BI = 4-zone control).
• Low-voltage technology (24 V or 48 V): Low-voltage design simplifies integration, improves machine safety, reduces high-voltage protection requirements, and lowers wiring and installation costs.
• Controlled zero-pressure accumulation: MDR conveyors can be programmed to create buffer accumulation zones without significant contact between loads, reducing production stops and product damage.
• Medium-heavy capacity with high traction: RollerDrive EC5000 motors are available in multiple power levels and can reach a maximum load capacity of approximately 1100 N per RollerDrive (depending on configuration), supporting heavier unit loads and higher line speeds.
• Sanitary version available: Ideal for cold, wet, and hygiene-sensitive environments.
• Energy efficiency: Each motorized roller consumes energy only when active, significantly reducing overall energy consumption compared to centrally driven conveyor systems.
• Simplified maintenance: Modular components and integrated motors simplify maintenance operations and reduce the cost associated with part replacement.
