Conveyors & Handling Systems
Non-Motorized Gravity Roller Conveyor
Main function
The gravity roller conveyor is a non-powered conveying system that uses gravity and a controlled incline to naturally move unit loads across a series of free-spinning rollers.
The flow direction is achieved through a slight frame inclination, allowing loads to move from one point to another without active motorization, providing a simple, reliable, and very low energy-cost solution.
This type of conveyor is used when product movement does not require powered drive, but rather a uniform progression under the effect of gravity, with minimal maintenance and mechanical complexity. The frame structure determines rigidity, load capacity, environmental suitability (wet / washdown), and ease of integration (supports, accessories, modifications).
Typical applications
• Passive load transfer between workstations or inspection areas
• Gravity flow connections within assembly cells, packaging areas, or logistics lines
• Simple buffer storage zones where flow can be regulated using roller brakes or mechanical stops
• Integration within hybrid systems combining powered conveyor sections with gravity sections
• Manual or semi-automated systems where motorization is not required
Key benefits
• Simple and cost-effective solution: Operates without motors, electronics, or active control systems, significantly reducing initial investment and operating costs.
• Minimal maintenance: The absence of mechanical or electrical drive components results in very little wear, fewer replacement parts, and simplified preventive maintenance.
• Controlled natural flow: The conveyor slope can be adjusted to precisely control gravity-driven product speed and prevent excessively fast or slow movement.
• Flexible integration: Can be combined with other conveyor technologies to optimize production flow without increasing the number of powered systems.
